Mobile coverage looks different from July. Will your signal stay the same?

Did you know that, from 1 July, Ofcom will update its mobile coverage checker?

They’ll be combining 4G and 5G coverage, instead of reporting them separately. The important thing is that this change will reduce the predicted coverage area shown, but actual mobile coverage and customer experience will remain unchanged.

Why is Ofcom making this change? They’re looking to better reflect the actual consumer experience by including both coverage and performance data. Ofcom’s study shows that there is a degree of variance between predicted and actual signal.

What this means:

  • The actual coverage and customer experience do not change.
  • This is simply a change in how Ofcom will report the ‘predicted’ coverage.
  • All mobile providers will experience the same change within the Ofcom coverage checker.
  • Ofcom’s coverage checker will include performance data, not just coverage data.
  • Performance data will be based on crowdsourced data
