Ad board competition finalists selected

After much deliberation, the finalists of the Crystal Palace and Jelly schools ad board competition have been chosen!

With 84 entries in total it was a very difficult and challenging task to select the finalists, who each receive a pair of Crystal Palace season tickets (one adult and one child), with the winning entry having their board produced and displayed for a live match throughout the coming season.

The main idea behind this campaign was to attract young football supporters to watching live Championship football. By promoting this campaign, it would also raise the profile of Crystal Palace FC and also Platinum sponsors Jelly Communications.

This initiative is being driven by Jelly MD Gareth Limpenny who is a lifelong Eagles supporter. He well remembers the pleasure he got as a child of going to Selhurst Park to see the games and his children also now enjoy the experience too. He wants to offer this opportunity to other children and this ad board competition is a good way of getting South London youngsters involved.

The finalists were all selected as their designs combined imagination, effort and an understanding of the service Jelly provides. The designs all used colour well and would translate to a ground advertising board.

From the ten finalists, the winner selected was the design by Asia Leadbitter of the Penwortham Primary School. Asia's design which can be seen below was chosen as it was a bright, vibrant, colourful image that presented Jelly with impact and fun. Asia's board will now be produced and displayed at the ground.

Congratulations to all of the finalists. These are their designs:

Ala Zdanowicz

Texting is good for businesses too

If you have a base of mobile numbers for your customers, colleagues or suppliers, then sending a text can be a low cost, simple way of creating awareness or generating response.

If you are a T-Mobile customer then it’s even easier! With T-Mobile’s Business 1-Plan, texts are unlimited on 24 and 36 month plans so you can send all of your messages to all of your contacts on a regular basis.

If you are sending low numbers of texts, you can do it from your own mobile phone, but for larger quantities, there is text message software you can load onto your computer and there are also text message broadcast companies that you can use.

If you are considering sending more business text messages, it’s worth looking at your tariff package to ensure you are on the best plan. Give your Jelly administrator a call on 0808 161 0000 and outline your plans and they will make sure your mobile package is right for what you want to do.

Like any form of marketing, if you are going to use mobile text messaging (SMS), there are a few tips to ensure you achieve the best results and build a positive reputation.

Target your Message

To get the best response, identify what messages you are going to send to which audience. Remember, if you are sending a marketing or sales message to your customers, make sure you copy your staff and let them know where the response will be directed.

Timing

Most people have their mobiles with them over 90% of the day, so timing is not much of an issue. However, if you are sending business text messages, the best time is usually mid to late afternoon.

Dnt Use Txt Speak!

If you are sending a business marketing message make sure you use standard English and ensure there are no errors or typos. Txt spk may work with a casual message to friends but might spoil your good work with an important business customer.

KISS - Keep it Simple Stupid!

You only have 160 characters to get your message across, so keep it to one simple message with a clear call to action and response method. We know you’re not stupid!

Make it very clear

Ensure you include everything in your message in a clear way and send a test to a colleague first to make sure it does the job you need it to do. If they have to call or go to a web site, ensure you give the correct phone number or web site address.

Make an impact

Just like any other marketing message, grab their attention immediately. Start your message with FREE, NEWS or OFFER if it’s applicable. This will also show up on the text preview on their mobile phone and will encourage them to open the SMS text message.

Test it then revise it and test it again

First impressions count so much, so you need to be sure your message is correct. Always send a test message first so you can see how it appears on the small screen of a mobile phone. Each time you make a change you must test it again to be sure it says what you want it to say.

For any help or advice on any element of your mobile communications, contact us here at Jelly on 0808 161 0000 or sales@jellycoms.co.uk. We’d be glad to help.

7 out of 10 UK businesses want VOIP

The study, carried out by research organisation Vanson Bourne, identified dramatic cost savings as the main reason for the interest in changing from traditional fixed line providers. The survey also showed that 41% of UK businesses are already using VOIP and seeing the benefits in cost saving and improved productivity.

VOIP uses the internet to route calls anywhere in the world and with call costs up to 50% cheaper than standard BT tariffs, businesses with high telecom usage can quickly see generous cost savings. VOIP has a number of other great benefits too, providing greater flexibility for staff by routing calls to their location and call conferencing, both of which will save even more money on travel costs.

Switching to VOIP is very easy too. There is no big engineering work and switchover can be managed to suit the businesses operation and it can keep the same numbers too, avoiding expensive changes to company stationery.

If a business wants to save money and improve staff productivity then contacting Jelly for a free audit and consultation should be the first step in a pain-free process that provides the latest technology and greater flexibility.

New season football fixtures announced

The memories of the last season are still fading away and with Euro 2012 heading towards the quarter finals, it seems football is a permanent part of our lives. Bringing it firmly back into focus is the release this week of next season's fixtures.

For Jelly sponsored Crystal Palace, the first Championship game is at home against Watford on Saturday 18th August. Crystal Palace 'Eagles' finished last season at a respectable 16th in the league and enjoyed a fantastic cup run, knocking out the mighty Manchester United. The Eagles will be hoping to build on this for next season and achieve bigger and better things. It's not going to be easy though. The standard in the Championship will be higher than ever and with games against the likes of Bolton, Wolves, Birmingham, Leeds, Brighton, Millwall, Charlton and Cardiff, the Eagles will need to be flying high in every game to give them a chance of success.

The Jelly logo will be highly visible on all home and away kits this year and also on the replica kits the fans buy too. Jelly will feature on advertising around the ground and in the match programmes and we will be promoting our mobile and fixed line services wherever we can, using football as a way of reaching small businesses with our messages.

Jelly will also be running a number of promotion initiatives during the season to spread football into the community. Our first activity is aimed at Year 5 school children, offering them the chance to win season tickets by designing a new Jelly advertising board. We have a number of schools signed up now and are reaching out to more to get them involved.

So football's coming home again. Like its ever been away!

10 Benefits of Hosted IP Telephony for SME's

10 Benefits for Hosted IP Telephony for SME’s

The benefits of Hosted IP Telephony are numerous and go beyond simple costs savings as customers have access to this technology without the associated problems of PBX systems, cost, and support.

1) A Business grade Hosted IP Telephony system
Hosted IP Telephony provides business customers with a leading cloud based phone system without the high costs of implementing a PBX system. From day one you will have a system that delivers all the current features plus any new ones that become available.

2) Future Proof
Hosted IP Telephony is "future proof," as soon as new features are introduced or the software is updated, it is automatically rolled out to customers, so you won't have to worry about paying for software upgrades or annual maintenance fees.

3) Pay As You Grow
With Hosted IP Telephony, Jelly offers a low monthly cost per user system with full scalability to remove or add seats as your business grows, so you don’t pay for more than you need.

4) Reduce Trunk Lines
Renting trunk lines from carriers can be more costly than an SME can afford, but most trading businesses rely on voice for both internal and external communications whether with a colleague or a customer. Hosted IP Telephony removes the overhead cost of trunk lines, adding profit to the bottom line.

5) Reduce Call Costs
Saving on calls may not be a primary driver for upgrading to Hosted IP Telephony, but it can be a prime factor for organisations that have multiple offices requiring frequent voice communication. With Jelly’s solution, all calls between internal users are completely free even between multiple sites.

6) Instant Communication
Hosted IP helps with productivity and the ability to collaborate remotely by creating direct links between remote employees and office-based employees with the click of a mouse.

7) Seamless Connectivity
This Telecommunications solution is complete with a user friendly phone manager portal providing remote access to the company’s phone system. Calls can be routed to a home office or mobile phone, making sure to never miss a call from your customers or prospects.

8) Quickly Respond to Customers
Jelly’s communication with customers has improved because of Hosted IP telephony. Especially with customers that are also using Jelly’s Hosted IP system, allowing them to contact our sales and customer service departments directly, FREE!

9) Cut Costs
Should your company move location, or needs to add or change a conventional telephone connection, it costs money. With Hosted IP, you can completely eliminate any down time by instantly configuring software yourself.

10) Your Number Moves With Business
With hosted IP you can take your number with you, down the road, to another town, or even another country as the system is not dependent upon your geographic location.

Talk to Jelly Communications about Hosted IP or other Telecoms solutions for your business. Call us on: 0808 161 0000 or email: sales@jellycoms.co.uk

Lifelong Eagles Fan

Following the successful trial programme which began mid way through this 2011-12 season, Jelly Communications has agreed to renew its sponsorship and hospitality package with Crystal Palace Football Club for 2012-13.

The package which will be further enhanced this season includes the Jelly brand appearing on the back of the shirts and shorts for both home and away kits, on the media back drop boards during pre and post match interviews, on stadium advertising boards at Selhurst Park and advertisements in the match programmes and on team sheets.

In addition, Jelly has the use of a hospitality box and is working with the club's business development team on business opportunities. Jelly has already been awarded the mobile and fixed line telecommunications contracts for Crystal Palace and installed a new IP telephony package that covers Selhurst Park and the training ground, replacing two outdated systems.

Whilst this is all good business for both parties, the stimulus behind this partnership was generated by Gareth Limpenny, Jelly's Managing Director and lifelong Eagles fan.

'My family are all Palace supporters so naturally I followed the trend and have been coming to see the Eagles since I was a young boy. I've suffered the pain and enjoyed the triumphs like many Palace supporters and when I had the opportunity to get involved, beyond being just a season ticket holder, it seemed a natural thing to do.

It's important that I can justify our investment on a solid business front, which I can, but it's important for me to be helping the club move forward. Part of the partnership allows me to provide football shirts for youngsters at local schools and clubs which I see as helping to secure the Club's future. We're also working with Palace to see if we can get lapsed season ticket holders coming back as this will help generate revenue back into the Club too. We also support a lot of the Crystal Palace Academy initiatives as this helps the Eagles grow their own future players, which is a key part of Palace's tradition and objectives and will allow more revenue to be spent on he Club as opposed to transfer fees.'

The Eagles ended the 2011-12 season at 17th place in the Championship. The season had its ups and downs with a fantastic Carling Cup run including the famous victory at Old Trafford against Manchester United as one of the highlights. This put Palace firmly in the spotlight and raised profile for Jelly Communications. Visitors to Jelly's web site (www.jellycoms.co.uk) rose by 600% around key games and Jelly has secured business off the back of its Palace partnership.

GO EAGLES!

Manage Your Smartphone's Data Cost

Smarphone users continue to increase and so will mobile data traffic. According to Telecoms.com mobile data traffic has grown by 60% in 2011 and is expected to increase ten fold over the next four years.

How do you connect to the internet with your Smartphone?

1) 3G- connects to the internet in your home country using your mobile networks service. Most network plans allow for 500 MB to 1GB of data as part of your line rental.

2) WiFi - is a medium that allows your smartphone to exchange data wirelessly over a computer network. You can change settings on your smartphone to discover and connect to a network resource via a wireless network access point or tower. Many WiFi connections are secured and require a password, however establishments like Starbucks or a library will be open.

How does connecting to the Internet on the move effect your monthly data charges?

By default, your smartphone will constantly try to connect to the internet while you are on the move. Going over your monthly allowance incurs additional costs to your monthly bill. Connecting or discovering WiFi points will help to reduce your costs.

How does data roaming fit in?

A recent survey estimates that 60% of mobile phone users do not understand data roaming, brief article.

Data roaming is when you allow your smartphone to connect to the internet wirelessly while you are abroad. At this point you are no longer using your home cellular network data plan. This means you will be charged for every megabyte of data sent or received to your smartphone. These costs can sometimes be double or triple your expected monthly charges.

You can minimize charges when you are abroad or travelling overseas by turning Data Roaming off. Follow these simple steps:

1) On your Smartphone go to 'Settings'

2) On the iPhone select 'General' on Android select 'Wireless Control' On BlackBerry go to 'Options'

3) Select 'Network' or 'Mobile Network'

4) Go to Data Roaming and turn 'Off' or 'Disable' on BlackBerry turn while roaming 'Off'

If you are a Jelly Communications customer, please contact us on: 0808 161 0000 or sales@jellycoms.co.uk to make sure you have the correct data plan on your Smartphone.
We are available Monday - Friday 9 am - 5:30 pm.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Failure to be on the correct data bolt on plan may result in high data charges on your future bills particularly if you are using it abroad.

Maximise Battery Life on Your iPad and iPhones

How to maximise Battery Life n Your iPad and iPhones

Keep Your iDevice Out of the Sun

Whatever you do, don't leave your iPhone or iPad sitting in the car- heat kills batteries faster than any other factor, and your device that use to keep a charge for hours will eventually barely hold a charge, and you will have to pay Apple to get it replaced. The same thing holds true for any hot environment: try to store your device in a cool place.

Reduce the Screen Brightness

If you keep the screen at maximum brightness all the time, you're wasting a lot of battery- and the screens these days are so bright anyway that you don't really need to, especially at night. Go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper to adjust the default level of brightness, which can be kept as low as 30% most of the time.

Make Sure the Screen Locks Quickly

Even if you have adjusted the screen brightness, there is still no substitute for having it turn off quickly when you are not using it. Go into General > Auto- Lock to set the screen lock to happen as quickly as your device will let you. This makes a big difference if you are always picking up your phone and putting it back into your pocket without turning display off.

Use Airplane Mode When you Don't Need Internet

If you are busy spending the next 8 hours playing Angry Birds, there might not be a good reason to have internet access, so you can consider using Airplane Mode, which turns off both Wi-Fi and the regular wireless radio. Of course, this will prevent phone calls if you're on an iPhone- but if you are busy with Angry Birds you probably don't want the interruption anyway.

The more important timr to use Airplane mode is when you are in an area with a really spotty connection. The iPhone or iPad will try to stay connected at all times, constantly searching for a connection, this can drain your battery. Go into Settings and flip the Airplan Mode to off.

Use Wi-Fi instead of 3G if Possible

According to Apple, the iPad will get 10 hours of battery life under regular use with Wi-Fi enabled, but will get 9 hours using 3G- the iPhone gets 6 hours on 3G and 10 with Wi-Fi. Of course, if you are heavily using the Wi-Fi you'll still be draining the battery. The point is under similar work loads Wi-Fi is better than 3G for battery life.

You can enable Wi-Fi under Settings > Wi- Fi, then pick the network you would like to connect to.

Reduce or Eliminate Mail and Calendar Checking

If you have a bunch of email, calendar or contact accounts configured and they are all being checked and downloading email on a regular basis, you'll be draining the battery an aweful lot faster than you need to.

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and change the setting to the least frequent check possible. If you don't use it often you can just turn Push off entirely and then manually check when you need to.

Reduce or Eliminate Push Notifications

Do you really need notifications from Twitter or whatever other apps you are running?

You can turn these off one by one, or turn off Push entirely by going to Settings > Notifications, and save a bit of extra battery life since your device won't be pulling in data for those applications anymore.

Reduce or Eliminate System Sounds

This one is probably a little silly, but if you really don't care for the system sounds you can save a small amount of battery life by removing the sounds. A very, very small amount, most likely. Go to Settings > General > Sounds to change them.

Disable Location Services

If you don't really need the location services, you can disable them to save some battery life. Go to Settings > General and flip the Location Services to off.

Disable Bluetooth if You Don't Need it

If you don't use a Bluetooth headset, keyboard, you should keep the Bluetooth radio disabled to save some extra battery life. Go to Settings > General > Bluetooth flip it on or off.

Disable Vibrate Features in Games

If you have a game that uses the vibrate feature, you can turn that off to save some battery life. This mostly matters if the game heavily uses it, then you'll need to change the setting for the game. As a side note, and it should go without saying, if you are running a really intensive video games, they will kill your battery very quickly.

Charge and Discharge Your Battery Regularly

Your iDevice needs to be fully discharged and recharged at least once a month to operate at maximum efficiency and keep the battery from dying. You will also want to make sure that you don't store the device with a dead battery, as that can also cause the battery to lose charge capability- when your battery dies, make sure to recharge it quickly.

Mobile Phone Signal Booster Cel-Fi RS2 from Nextivity is now available at Jelly. Cel-Fi is a wireless, plug ‘n’ play, cost-effective signal booster intended for 3G mobile users.

Cel-Fi uses smart antenna technology and on-board intelligence to boost the mobile phone reception by the usage of three units: a reception antenna, a signal amplifier and an internal rebroadcast antenna. Cel-Fi RS2 finds the best available signal and automatically adjusts to any changes in the radio frequency environment to maximize the signal gain to the user.

The product itself consists of two units, a window unit (WU) and a coverage unit (CU). The former should be placed in the area of the strongest received signal from the carrier network (min of 110 dBm). This unit includes a transmitter and receiver that communicates with the mobile mast. The latter unit that should be placed in the centre of the building communicates wirelessly with the WU and considerably boosts the signal levels inside the building and therefore significantly improves the quality of the calls and increases the data throughput.

Key consumer benefits include:

Improved voice coverage, enabling clear and reliable 3G connections within a coverage area up to 13,000 square feet. The system can turn one bar of coverage into five
